You Know You Work in Public Relations When…

By Allen Haynes, Director, Public Relations

Sometimes it's difficult knowing if you work in public relations. Luckily for you, we created a full-proof test, so you can know without a shadow of a doubt whether or not you work in this amazing industry. If you answer yes to any of the following questions, you work in public relations.

1) You are the number one news source for your family and friends – but they still don’t know what you do for a living.

2) Your thank you and holiday cards are written in AP style

3) There are few scenarios more stressful than the walk from the parking lot to the office with carriers of Starbucks for the entire staff. Crisis scenarios on the other hand – no worries.

4) You will plug any USB in wrong the first try every single time. Every. Single. Time.

5) These phrases

  • “I’ll know what I want when I see it.
  • “I really like it, but can you change it?
  • “Jazz it up.
  • “Can we make it go viral?"

6) Your to-do lists start as one page and is four by the end of the day

7) PowerPoint is your second language even though you recommend the presentation be formatted differently

8) Alignment meetings, which means no one is on the same page

9) Someone wants to "dialogue" – which, you of course know, is a noun, not a verb

10) You can't imagine doing anything else for a living
