American Express Travel Management Services (AMEX) recruited Duffey to generate awareness for its sponsorship of the NFL Experience, a multi-media and interactive sports theme park that was part of Super Bowl XXVII.
Duffey developed a community relations program highlighted by an essay contest for local middle and high school students titled "What Makes A Hero?" Fifty winners would be given free tickets to the theme park with one grand prize of a trip to Disneyland.
The winners were selected at a judging dinner and presented prizes at an awards breakfast. Special guests for these events included Dan Marino of the Miami Dolphins and Al Roker of NBC's Today show. The media coverage garnered by Duffey for these events had an 8,500 percent return on AMEX's investment.
